I spent about the first 15 years of my creative life writing about music, and about halfway though that period, I started to get into movies, how they were constructed, and what made them work. Compared to my colleagues in the Central Ohio Film Critics Association, I would say that I’m more ‘movie reviewer’ than ‘film critic,’ which means that I suffer pretentiousness poorly, and for better or worse, I’m willing to cut certain movies slack even when they do something stupid. In short, I’m a guy who’s seen a lot of movies, and has opinions on them, but I’m not a snob. Most of the time, my reviews fall in line with the ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, but I go rogue once in a while. Basically, I’m human, and by no means do I feel an obligation to fall in line with the general consensus when it comes to critical mass. Screw that.
Until I can come up with a better way of categorizing everything, we’re doing it alphabetically, which of course means I’m going to start with movies that begin with numbers.
